Say Goodnight, Gracie!

It's that time of year again when our turtles are preparing to "go down" into hibernation for the next 6 months or so. Typically, once the night time temps dip below 70, we see a marked decline in their activity. So had been the case the past few weeks, when we started seeing more seasonable temps. Over the past week, however, we've been well into the low 100's, with night time temperatures still in the 80's till 10:00pm or so. Clover, Rover, Charlie Bubble, Mudhead and Diablo have filled their bellies, and are starting to dig their holes for their winter siesta. Assuming we return to reasonable temperatures in the next few weeks, they will be buried deep beneath the ground until spring. So here is a little photo collage of their last horrah, their final days of this season, and their brother and sister saying "goodnight".

Good Night Sweet Ones!

I just love that your "shell babies" have their own super cool housing structure! You two ROCK!

Great pictures!! What an interesting life you two have. I guess you do not need a sitter for these guys while you are away, right? Eleven days, is it?

Well, Owl, if they are hybernating by the time we leave, then no, we don't need a sitter. If the temps stay as warm as they have been this week, then we might!! It depends on the weather now.

Prinnie,
Your box turtles look as big as my pet, Tortuga. He lives in the basement over the winter but next year we are going to build him a big year-round pen in the yard. He was sick over the weekend but my doctor fixed him and he is fine now.

I know your mom and dad are excited about the soonness of their trip, but will you be ok without them?
